In the vibrant 1920s, our city pulsated to the rhythm of 5,000 railcars of cattle annually, while every ounce of wool from southwest Texas made its way through our bustling streets?

1923 marked the dawn of our oil boom with the famed Santa Rita well #1. We were the trailblazers of the Permian Basin's oil rush. Trains thundered through at all hours, shuttling eager men and supplies westwards and bringing the black gold back east. This fervor not only boosted our population to 25,000 but also graced us with iconic landmarks like our County Courthouse and a City Hall complete with its own theater!

WWII saw San Angelo chosen by destiny (and the war department) to mold the next generation of sky warriors. Thanks to the Santa Fe extending its grasp, Goodfellow Airfield was born.
Ponder for a moment: What would San Angelo be without its agricultural triumphs, the oil revolution, or the iconic Goodfellow Air Force Base? Certainly not the vibrant city we cherish today!
